Belvedere Integrated Healing Arts is pleased to present its premier program, MotherCare VA, a comprehensive therapeutic and educational program for expecting and postpartum families.
Prenatal and Postpartum Massage
Massage therapy during the childbearing year helps relieve tension and reduce stress. For the pregnant mom, BIHA offers prenatal massage on a special salon table, as well as home visits prenatally and postpartum. Postpartum massage is especially beneficial in helping relieve tension from birth, reduce stress, increase a sense of security and well-being, and settle women into their new role as mother.

Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle and powerful therapy that assists the body to achieve its natural healthy state. Kate is trained in an osteopathic tradition from the UK called Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy that focuses on the fluid system in the body. Because of its gentleness, it is an effective way to work with trauma in the body, and is especially useful when working with babies. Baby’s first craniosacral therapy treatment is free and can be done soon after birth.

Prenatal Education
Pregnancy can be an exciting time, but it can also be a difficult time for many people. Kate has developed a prenatal education class called Conscious Pregnancy that informs expectant couples of the latest research in pre and perinatal psychology and neuroscience. She weaves science, storytelling, mind-body medicine, and art so parents can express feelings in a creative and safe way.

Infant Massage
Infant massage sessions are offered as a home visit with new parents, and also as part of the class series, Babytime. Infant massage promotes bonding and attachment for new families, and helps relax baby. Research has shown that baby massage settles the nervous system of most babies, and promotes weight gain. Touch is vital to babies, and can help relieve the symptoms of colic. It can promote better sleep and sensory awareness, too. Infant massage also has many benefits for parents.
Parent-Child Connections
Kate offers several parent-infant and toddler groups that combine neuroscience, play and attachment.
BabyConnection is for caretakers/parents with precrawling babies and offers information about nonverbal cues, the importance of tummy time, infant massage and movement, and how the brain and nervous system develop in relationship with the parent. Fun exercises, songs and finger plays are integrated into the curriculum.
ToddlerConnection offers six thematic groups with interactive exercises for parent-child dyads with crawling/walking children to age 3. The groups promote healthy nervous system development. Sign language, snack included.
EmotionConnection teaches parents about the importance of affect in being with babies and small children, and integrates the Emotion Coaching curriculum designed by John Gottman. Outside play is part of the class.

A Child’s Story: Illustrate your child’s Creation Story and learn skills to be with babies.
Recovery From Birth
Kate has cultivated a specialty in helping mothers and babies recover from birth. Sometimes difficulties arise in the postpartum period and moms and babies need a place to sort out their labor experience. Massage and craniosacral therapy with explanations of the birth process help families recover, understand, and move on from overwhelming early experiences.
Family Play Sessions
For families who have special needs, play sessions help sort out how early experiences affect the developing nervous system. Research has shown that overwhelming experiences prenatally, during birth and the first years of life can manifest physically, emotionally, developmentally and cognitively. Families have found relief and support through specific games and the information children reveal through play. The sessions also offer resources for parents.

Lactation Assistance
Many mothers and babies have difficulty with nursing, a vital part of the their relationship. Often nursing difficulties are due to cranial molding from birth and can be easily resolved with craniosacral therapy. Mothers can also learn skills to help with early attachment.
